Lift outages in Berlin

Real-time lift and escalator availability at DB-managed stations in Berlin is published through Deutsche Bahn's FaSta (Facility Status) API, which covers S-Bahn and long-distance rail stations. Germany's accessibility framework is grounded in the Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz (BGG), which obliges public transport providers and federal institutions to ensure barrier-free access. The BVG (Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe) operates the U-Bahn and publishes lift status for its stations separately through its own service information channels.

For residential and commercial buildings, lift maintenance obligations sit with building owners and Hausverwaltungen (property managers) under German tenancy and building law. Outages at DB FaSta-covered stations are added to the public record here as they appear on the agency feed; outages in other buildings and at non-DB stations are added as riders and building staff submit them.

How to report a broken lift in Berlin

  • DB S-Bahn and rail stations: DB FaSta real-time status or the DB Reisezentrum customer line
  • BVG U-Bahn stations: BVG service information or the BVG customer service line
  • Residential tenants: contact your Hausverwaltung; persistent issues can be escalated to the local Bezirksamt
  • Any building, public record: file an outage on Elevator Uptime in 15 seconds
