Elevator outage dataset
Elevator, escalator and accessibility-lift outages reported by riders on Elevator Uptime, plus the transit-agency feeds and regulator inspection records whose terms allow redistribution. Each third-party source is its own gzipped file with its publisher’s attribution. Updated daily.
Inspection records are not outage confirmations: they are regulator inspection or violation records, and the Texas rows only flag elevators whose inspection certificate had expired. Other agencies and regulators shown on the site are left out because their terms do not allow redistribution or could not be confirmed.

Cadence and corrections
- A new export runs every day around 10:30 UTC. Each run is published whole and checked before the links switch to it.
- Riders can delete their reports at /privacy. Deleted rows leave the next daily file and older runs are removed after 7 days, so a removal reaches every download link within 7 days.
- Earlier revisions of the Hugging Face mirror keep their history and may still contain rows removed later.
Privacy
Rider fingerprints, email addresses, notes that moderation has not published and photos not classified as showing the outage are never exported. Email addresses typed into a published note are removed. Third-party rows never carry a note or photo.
Fields
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| outage_id | Stable id of the outage record (UUID). |
| building_id | Stable id of the building (UUID); the building page is building_url. |
| building_name | Building or station name as shown on the site. |
| address | Street address as shown on the site. |
| city | City or locality. |
| region | State, province or region code, when known. |
| country | ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code, normalized from the building's stored country (e.g. "Canada", "USA", "Danmark" become CA, US, DK). A value that cannot be matched to a code is passed through unchanged, so any value that is not two capital letters is raw source text, not an ISO code. |
| lat | Building latitude (WGS 84). |
| lng | Building longitude (WGS 84). |
| equipment_category | Equipment type of the affected unit (elevator, escalator, accessibility_lift, …), when the unit is known. |
| unit_label | Label of the affected unit, when the report names one. |
| source | Channel the record came in through (for rider reports, how the report was filed). |
| outage_source | Kind of record as stored: user_report, chicago_dob_inspection, nyc_dob_inspection, tx_tdlr_inspection or transit_api. |
| started_at | Rider reports and transit rows: when the outage started (ISO 8601, UTC). inspection_record rows: the inspection or violation date. expired_inspection_flag rows (Texas): the date the inspection certificate expired, not the start of an outage. |
| ended_at | Rider reports and transit rows: when the outage ended (ISO 8601, UTC), empty while open. inspection_record rows: when the regulator recorded the violation as resolved. expired_inspection_flag rows: when the flag was cleared (a newer inspection, or the device left the registry); empty while the certificate is still expired. |
| duration_hours | Rider reports and transit rows: outage length in hours, empty while it is still open. Always empty on inspection_record and expired_inspection_flag rows, which do not measure an outage. |
| resolution_source | Rider reports and transit rows: what closed the outage (rider confirmation, auto-close, agency feed, …). Always empty on inspection_record and expired_inspection_flag rows. |
| note | The rider's own note, only when moderation published it; email addresses are removed. Empty otherwise. |
| photo_url | The rider's photo, only when it was classified as showing the outage. Empty otherwise. |
| building_url | Building page on elevatoruptime.com. |
| record_type | rider_report, transit_agency_outage, inspection_record (a regulator inspection or violation record, not a confirmed outage) or expired_inspection_flag (Texas: the device's inspection certificate had expired; not an outage). |
| provider | Who the record comes from: user_report for rider reports, otherwise the source key listed in the README (e.g. chicago_dob_inspection, mta_nyc). |
